The design of cookbooks, like all working manuals, offers a great opportunity to join identity and aesthetics to practicality - they must delight and entertain yet function perfectly. More than good typography is required. Text, instructions and lists of ingredients must be organized and arranged to be clear and accessible. The best thematic way to conceal the artifacts and low resolution of the principle image for this book cover was to introduce color and scanlines to suggest the enlargement of a television screen image. 6"x9".
Fidalgo Elementary pioneered an innovative educational program and asked me to fashion a report from their manuscript, data and collection of photographs.
Clearsnap's first bound catalog was designed and produced on a very tight timeline. I provided all product photography and image enhancement with the exception of the cover which is a composite of studio and stock photography. 100 pages, 8.5" x 11", perfect bound, full color throughout.
Prior to their single bound book, Clearsnap preferred periodic mini-catalogs to represent their many distinct product lines. 8.5" x 11", full color. 12-20 pages each.

Sometimes the best packaging is the least packaging. Here, the client intended to present a successful single product as a group in their usual opaque cases and struggled with how to indicate colors. They were delighted with my suggestion of a trademark and my recommendation to use clear cases which obviated the need for labels, backing cards or cartons. A simple clear shrink was all that was required.
Compositing studio and stock photography led to many entertaining and inexpensive images for this series of audio CD inserts and tray cards. 4.75"x9.5"
Dimensionally accurate illustrations complement the information and instructions in these retail bundle wraps. Varying sizes.
Clearsnap asked me to create the artwork for most of the more than 100 stamp sets across several product lines, in addition to the packaging design and production.
With a consistent, appealing and distinctive look, Clearsnap's advertising program transformed a commodity item (inkpads) into internationally recognized brands. Varying sizes.
Quite often, the challenge was to transform good images into great ones and add text without compromising their appeal.

This full featured, wholesale and retail e-commerce site (since redesigned and converted to wholesale only by new owners) featured hundreds of products, product information, shipping and carton size calculator, forum, instructional video clips, order history and store locator. The site was administered and updated by client through a web browser. Both the site and administration application were built in Flash/ColdFusion/MySQL by Asa Miller (www.AsaMiller.com).
For ten years, www.LineTime.org (named for that premier island communication time, waiting in the ferry line) has provided the organizations and citizens of the Island community with news and information, stories, calendar, message board and directory.
